Nice try, troll! Anyone with an AK-47 is going to get a Treason Wall built around them in about 6 months. :D

Indeed! Although, I would suggest that while American has its problems for sure, it’s not really a crap show. It’s just that worrying about all the problems sometimes makes us focus disproportionately on them and forget out blessings.

Part of the reason I don't carry concealed yet. I may be able to get a 3" cluster at 30' at the range, but under pressure, everyone in a 180-degree cone in front of me would probably be shot.

7.62 commie stuff? I thought people around here liked to win. So go get a .308 Win. Make it a 7.62x51 as the right arm of the free world if you have to.

j/k; The Kalashnikov rifle is a really great platform. Don't overlook the 5.45 though. Those are good stuff too.

Kinja'd!!!1

I'm just kidding, of course....the 7.62/.308 was around in the US long before the M-16 made the 5.56 more common. I honestly think the 7.62 is the better all-arounder for every situation, from hunting to anti-personnel. I'm not a weapons expert by any stretch, but I am looking to buy my first rifle in the next couple years.

I visit the US in 2014, I loved it (yes, even though I went to Florida) everyone was nice and I really enjoyed it.

I was asked two questions very frequently, 1. Where are you from/what is that accent? And 2. Are you not cold? Wearing shorts in 77f is like the British Summer.

Great nation, shame about the TSA. I do prefer my native UK though.

I’d stay away from those. From the website:

First, thru the use of CNC design and manufacturing, all of the parts that were formerly cast, are now CNC manufactured, meaning the tolerances of the parts can be tighter

The whole reason the Kalashnikov is legendary is because of it’s loose tolerances. They allow to to get all sorts of shit stuck in there while still keeping the rifle operational. Just by some Putin made one.

Kinja'd!!!0

That’s really not the case . The word you’re looking for is “clearance”. There’s a world of difference.

You are not going to get your hands on a new manufacture “proper” AK made by Izmash/Kalashnikov Concern. Get a civilian Valmet.

That's the subcompact, right? I get all the XD models mixed up. Glock 19 here, but so far just two-handed shooting for me. I can one-hand a full size gun pretty well, but I wanted something that could serve just about every role well (including concealed, although a double-stack auto is pretty thick).

I got myself a C308 from Century Arms (their current offering of the CETME not the crappy previous version) and I’m super happy with it. Granted it kicks like a mule but what do you want from a 308 winchester being fired out of a rifle with a composite stock.

As a satisfied c308 owner I can tell you G3 parts can be swapped onto CETME rifles. I added a HD G3 buffer on mine but it wouldn’t fit in my stock so I used a G3 stock without issue.

At $750 it makes for a great budget 308 that doesn’t suck.

And 2. Are you not cold? Wearing shorts in 77f is like the British Summer.

That’s because Southerners in general believe anything lower than like 85F is cold. Coincidentally, if you visit up North, anything above like 75F is considered hot by most of us and it’s not unusual to see people wearing shorts well into 40F or even 30F degree weather.

That’s a big Florida thing I guess, I live in Alabama, and people don’t consider it to be cold until it drops below 50 degrees.

The TSA is a problem tho, it really makes flying that much worse.

I’d been awake for 20+ hours by the time I arrived, if I can smile, crack a joke and generally be a tolerable person, so can they. I only met one nice TSA guy. By contrast UK and Spanish (the only other places I have experience in) are delightful.

You know if they just smiled occasionally, and acted more human, people might hate them less.

The ESTA application is laughable too. I recall one of the questions was “are you currently or at any time been a member of Al Qaeda?” Wut?

I go running when it’s cold in shorts, but you warm up. The first 5 minutes or so are hard, the coldest last year was -1c/30f

I’ve only met a few kind ones, and all but one were at rural Colorado airports, where only 5 flights leave a week. The one exception was at my local airport, where normally they will pull you aside for ANYTHING. I once got pulled because I had “metal residue” on my right hand, and it set off alarms and everyone looked at me. I then had to answer a bunch of questions like “Where are you going”, “Why are you going there”, and my favorite: “Have you ever considered traveling to the middle east”.

I do tend to try to be nice to the agents, but sometimes you just know they’re going to be rude.

Kinja'd!!! Leon711 > touring the brook - now with ZHP!

Kinja'd!!!0

To be fair on the way out of MCO there was a delightfully camp TSA agent just before the metal detector that was ok, almost forgot about him because of the heavily roided agent with the gun in the queue.

I mean armed officers at airports are routinely deployed here but you are never that close to them, if I was a lunatic I could have lunged at him a got his gun.

Rather upsettingly I have better archery groupings at 15 yards than I do with a handgun at 10 yards. I guess using sights is hard.

I lived in North Alabama for most of my life, then moved to Florida after I graduated. I still remember the day I passed by a house when it was 80 degrees and smoke was pouring out of the chimney. Isolated incident I thought, nope. Got to Sonic and half the people outside were wearing jackets.

Really? I have two SGL-21s sitting in my safe right now. Not sure what you mean by proper AK. You’re going to have a real rough time finding a select fire one, if that’s what you’re referring to.

That’s a bit extreme, I would never consider wearing a jacket above 60 degrees, maybe even 55 if it’s sunny outside.

Thankfully I like colder weather, and mountains, so I am not drawn to Florida at all. Even if I did enjoy beaches and soup-like air, a lot of other Floridian qualities would force me as far away from it as possible.

Kinja'd!!!0

By that I mean something akin to the current AK-103 or -12 in 7.62x39 in terms of closeness to the original designs’ updates.

A select fire AK would probably be way out of the budget in any case, much less usable in any case unless you somehow got an AK-107 or its derivatives.

Kinja'd!!! DipodomysDeserti > Krieger (@FSKrieger22)
08/01/2016 at 21:19

Kinja'd!!!0

I think the only difference between my SGL and an AK-103 is the rear trunion which allows for the folding stock. And the select fire aspect.

08/01/2016 at 21:31

Kinja'd!!!0

Exactly (yes, I can be a stickler for details over the silliest of things).

All things said, an SGL is a very good (US civilian legal) rifle. What's it like to shoot?

Stamped AKs all pretty much feel the same to me. I polished the trigger on it so it’s nice and smooth. I also have an AR SBR which is my go to rifle.
